With the 203mm SCT at 200x in the 10mm eyepiece, Pitatus appears as a large crater lying at the edge of a mountain chain on the southern edge of Mare Nubium. The crater has a central peak that is just barely visible. The floor of the crater has five small bright spots surrounding the central peak.
